About Us
We are an online store specializing in folk instruments, with a particular focus on hurdy-gurdies. All of our instruments are built in our own workshop under the MM Instruments brand.
Our story began in 2018 with a dream of Piotr Martuś, who had been fascinated by the sound of the hurdy-gurdy for many years. The idea of designing and building the instrument quickly turned into a passion and completely absorbed him.
In pursuing this dream, he was supported by his wife, Michalina Malisz, who at that time was a hurdy-gurdy player in the band Eluveitie. Thanks to close cooperation and musical experience, we were able to create instruments refined both in sound and playing comfort.
Since then, we have introduced five hurdy-gurdy models to the market and have built nearly 1,000 instruments to date (as of December 29, 2025).
Michalina
Michalina Malisz is a passionate hurdy-gurdy player. She began learning the instrument in 2014, inspired by the band Eluveitie, which she joined shortly thereafter for six years. Performing with Eluveitie, she gained extensive stage experience across five continents.
Currently, she co-runs the MM Instruments workshop with Piotr and leads the band LYRRE, which combines metal music with the hurdy-gurdy. She also teaches hurdy-gurdy playing through private lessons as well as international hurdy-gurdy workshops.
Piotr
Piotr Martuś is an acoustics engineer by education, and a musician and luthier by passion. In his instrument-making work, he combines engineering knowledge with intuition gained from over a decade of live performances and studio recordings.
Since 2014, he has collaborated on hurdy-gurdy recordings for Michalina Malisz’s YouTube channel.
During that time, he continued to deepen his interest in the instrument, eventually founding his own lutherie workshop in 2018 and beginning the production of hurdy-gurdies under the MM Instruments brand. He studied the craft of lutherie, among others, with Piotr Aleksander Nowak (P.A.N. Instruments).
Since 2021, he has also co-led the band LYRRE with Michalina, known for its prominent use of the hurdy-gurdy.
